Privacy notice
LAST UPDATED 11 OCTOBER 2026
FemaleTravelBuddy (femaletravelbuddy.com) is a pre-launch project. This notice covers the website and the waitlist only. Nothing else is live. Contact: hello@femaletravelbuddy.com.
What we collect
When you join the waitlist we store:
- your email address (required);
- your home city, only if you type one in;
- the date and time you signed up;
- the country your request came from, as a two-letter code worked out by our hosting provider from your connection;
- campaign tags in the link you used, such as
utm_source, or arefcode, only if the link had them.
We do not collect your name, a password, your ID, a selfie, your payment details or your precise location. ID and selfie checks are planned for launch. We will publish a separate notice, and ask you first, before collecting anything like that.
Why, and our lawful basis
We use this information to send you updates about the launch of FemaleTravelBuddy, and to decide which cities to open after London. Our lawful basis under UK GDPR is your consent. You give it by submitting the waitlist form, and you can withdraw it at any time (see “Your rights”).
Where it is kept, and who else sees it
Waitlist entries are stored with Upstash Redis, a database service that may keep copies of them in more than one country, including the United States, the United Kingdom and Singapore. This means your information may be transferred outside the UK. Upstash’s published data processing terms say it uses safeguards for such transfers, such as standard contractual clauses with the ICO’s UK addendum, or the Data Privacy Framework. We do not share the list with anyone.
Other services that handle data when you use this site:
| Service | What it does |
|---|---|
| Upstash | Stores waitlist entries. |
| MXroute and Google Gmail | Emails you send to hello@femaletravelbuddy.com are forwarded by MXroute to a Google Gmail inbox, where we read and keep them. We keep them until we have dealt with your message, and delete them if you ask. |
| Vercel (US) | Hosts the site. Its servers receive your IP address and browser details whenever a page loads, as any web host does. |
| Google Fonts | Supplies the typefaces. Your browser fetches them from Google, which receives your IP address. |
| Google Analytics | Counts visits and waitlist sign-ups, if you accept analytics cookies. See “Cookies and analytics”. |
We do not sell your information or use it for advertising. We have not yet sent any email to the list. When we do, we will use an email service, and we will update this notice before that happens.
How long we keep it
We keep each sign-up until 6 months after we send the launch email, and never longer than 18 months from the day you joined. The 18-month limit is set automatically in the database, so it does not depend on us remembering. When we send the launch email we shorten the remaining time to 6 months. You can ask us to remove you sooner at any time.
Cookies and analytics
We use Google Analytics 4 to count visits and waitlist sign-ups and to see which pages people read. Analytics cookies are off until you accept, for everyone, using Google Consent Mode. A banner asks you to Accept or Reject, and both buttons carry equal weight.
- Cookie we always set after you choose:
ftb_consent, our own cookie, which remembers your choice for 180 days. - If you Accept: Google Analytics sets its own cookies,
_gaand one beginning_ga_, to tell visits apart. These usually last up to two years. - If you Reject, or ignore the banner: no analytics cookies are set. The Google tag still loads, so Google receives the ordinary details of a web request, such as your IP address and the page you opened, and may receive limited analytics signals that do not use cookies.
- Advertising: we run no ads. Advertising storage and personalisation are denied in every case, and ad data redaction is on.
You can change your choice at any time with , here or in the footer of any page. To remove cookies already set, clear this site’s cookies in your browser.
Your rights
Under UK GDPR you can ask us to:
- tell you what we hold about you, and give you a copy;
- correct it;
- erase it;
- restrict or stop how we use it;
- withdraw your consent, which will not affect anything we did before you withdrew.
To do any of these, including being removed from the waitlist, email hello@femaletravelbuddy.com from the address you signed up with. If you are unhappy with how we handle your information, you can complain to the Information Commissioner’s Office at ico.org.uk.
Changes
If we change what we collect, or add a service, we will update this notice and the date at the top before the change takes effect.
